Analysis of Pontius Pilate

Bronze leptons of Pontius Pilate, prefect (governor) of Judaea from 26 to 36 AD.

In this series we analysed the character of Pontius Pilate as portrayed in the Gospels.

We were able to accomplish a number useful ends in looking at this important figure of history and the New Testament.

A) We had the opportunity to see a fuller biography of the man himself. His characteristics, his career, his political position as Roman governor in Israel.

B) We considered his true attitude towards Jesus of Nazareth. The exchanges between Pilate and Christ recorded in John’s Gospel are especially helpful in this regard.

C) We spent time comparing and contrasting the person of Pilate with the Person of Christ, the spheres of their governance and the legacy of their reigns.
